Does A Non Surgical Eyelid Lift Work? (Before and After Photos)

Doctor and patient discussing eyelid surgery options (MODEL)

Youthful, alert eyes can communicate an attractive vitality. Aging eyes, and in some cases, genetics, can create an older, tired appearance. I often see men and women who are considering eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) because they have sagging, droopy eyelids and fat bulges under the eyes.

In some cases, however, surgery isn’t necessary or combining surgical and non surgical options is recommended. Non surgical eyelid lift options like laser resurfacing, nonsurgical skin tightening and lifting, dermal fillers, micro fat grafting, and even an enhanced skincare regimen can improve the appearance of both the upper and lower eyelids for some patients.

In this post, we’ll explore various nonsurgical treatments and introduce you to surgical alternatives, such as double eyelid surgery and hooded eye surgery, which might be better suited for certain eyelid concerns. We’ll also share blepharoplasty before and after photos to help you visualize your options.

How Can I Lift My Eyelids Without Surgery?

This is a question we hear quite often. Men and women with mild to moderate aging symptoms who want to rejuvenate their eye area without surgery have a few effective options. However, these non surgical options typically don’t create the dramatic, long-term results of eyelid surgery.

Injectable Treatments

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can significantly improve the contours of the upper eyelid and brow. Treatments should address both of these areas because they are interrelated, and neuromodulators that minimize wrinkles can produce a slight brow lift, too. Dermal fillers such as Restylane® also help create a more youthful-looking eyebrow arch while restoring volume in the area below the eyes. I may combine upper blepharoplasty with filler in the tear trough and a volumizing filler in the cheeks to create comprehensive results.

Laser Treatments

The delicate skin of the lower and upper lids represents perhaps the thinnest skin on your entire body. If you’re concerned about fine lines or lax skin, laser skin resurfacing treatment is an excellent and highly customizable solution. I may combine your laser treatment with Morpheus8 RF microneedling to further lift and tighten loose, wrinkled eyelid skin. Administering a chemical peel is another option that corrects skin discoloration under the eyes.

Other Products

There are several products available that can provide temporary lifting of low-lying or drooping eyelids. You may have seen adhesive strips that you can place in your eye crease to help reduce the appearance of overhanging skin or a monolid. There is also a prescription eye drop product called Upneeq that temporarily improves a condition called acquired blepharoptosis, or droopy eyelids.

Surgical Alternatives for Aging Eyelids

While nonsurgical options can provide subtle improvements, surgical eyelid lift procedures such as upper and lower blepharoplasty often deliver more dramatic and long-lasting results, especially for patients with pronounced aging symptoms. I perform a variety of specialized eyelid surgery techniques that address your aesthetic concerns and goals:

Double Eyelid Surgery

Double eyelid surgery, also known as Asian eyelid surgery, creates a defined yet natural-looking crease in the upper eyelid. This helps patients who want to get rid of a monolid without sacrificing their . In some cases, I may combine this technique with a brow lift for optimal results.

Hooded Eye Surgery

Hooded eye surgery, often referred to as upper blepharoplasty, addresses excess skin and fat that hangs over the crease of the upper eyelid. This causes “hooded eyes” that can make you look older or more tired than you feel. The hanging skin may even interfere with your field of vision. The procedure requires minimal downtime, and you can expect your results to be long-lasting.

Lower Blepharoplasty

A lower blepharoplasty specifically targets the lower eyelids and under eyes to address bulging bags or unsightly puffiness. Incisions are carefully made along the lower lash line to remove excess tissue and fat before subtly lifting and tightening the delicate under eye skin. This gives you a refreshed, younger, and more vibrant appearance.

Combining Treatments To Fix Droopy Eyelids

Nonsurgical treatments for upper and lower eyelids may be combined with blepharoplasty to produce the best results. When I examine patients and listen to them describe what bothers them about the appearance of their eyelids, my job is to recommend a personalized treatment plan.

Your unique treatment plan is based on the answer to a single question: “What is the best approach in your specific situation?”

In many cases, precise surgical excision of lax skin (blepharoplasty) of the upper and lower eyelids is the most effective procedure to aesthetically:

  1. Define and expose the double-lid line and lift sagging upper lid skin from the lash margin and;
  2. Reduce excess skin folds draping below the lower lid margin

In the patient shown here, the treatment plan called for blepharoplasty and a brow lift.

Non Surgical Eyelid Lift vs. Eyelid Surgery

As I mentioned earlier, nonsurgical treatments can be effective under the right circumstances. But the dramatic changes produced by upper and lower eyelid surgery—which can be combined in a single procedure—are apparent when you look at blepharoplasty before-and-after photos of some of my Ford Plastic Surgery patients.
